Paraguay, with the best business climate in the region.
"According to economic indexes calculated by Germany’s IFO (Institute for Economic Research or Information und Forschung) and Brazil’s Fundação Getulio Vargas, Paraguay poses favourably on top of its regional neighbours with a score on its business climate index which amounts to 135,8. With this indicator, Paraguay surpasses even its neighbour Brazil, which holds an average of 82,5.
A few days ago, Mr. Arnaldo Samaniego - Mayor of Asunción - highlighted this fact emphasising that the country is adopting an economic policy which, as never before, is opened to new opportunities.
In 2013, Paraguay has recorded the world’s third largest economic development with 14,1%. This year’s perspective is of 5,5% to 7%, impulsed mainly by industry and commerce.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, one of the pillars of this economic growth are the so called “maquiladoras”, companies that import parts and components of the products to be manufactured (assembled) in Paraguay for its later exportation.
Mr. Ernesto Paredes, executive secretary of the National Maquila Industry Council, has informed that almost 80% of exports go to the Mercosur countries. He added that until May 15 of this year the sale of maquila industries abroad reached a near USD 80 million. In 2013, the total reached USD 150 million.
According to Paredes growth will continue: “between last year and this year we have 17 new projects”."
